What to expect from Rajnikanth’s Vettaiyan

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan is gearing up for a grand release on October 10. Director TJ Gnanavel’s film promises to be a mix of Rajinikanth’s star power and important social themes. As we are just days away from the worldwide release, here we list three reasons why fans should watch the film in theatres.
Pan-Indian casting isn’t new in Rajinikanth’s films. There was Aishwarya Rai in Enthiran, Nana Patekar in Kaala, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Petta, to name a few. In Vettaiyan, the big pan-Indian name apart from Rajinikanth is Amitabh Bachchan.
Each actor – be it Amitabh Bachhan, or Rana Daggubati or Fahadh Faasil – is expected to play a crucial role in Vettaiyan, along with Rajinikanth. The trailer hints at character prioritisation instead of just relying on star hype. One example is Bachchan’s character saying a powerful dialogue: “Justice delayed is justice denied; justice hurried is justice buried.”
Then there is Rana Daggubati, who appears as a business tycoon, and Fahadh Faasil, who takes on the role of a thief. This hand-picked casting suggests that the overall narrative would be above the Rajinikanth factor.
Here’s the trailer:

The trailer opens with a large crowd protesting for justice after a brutal crime against a woman, accompanied by a voice-over stating, “In this country, women have no safety; but scoundrels do.”
As tensions rise, Rajinikanth’s character justifies extrajudicial killings, proclaiming, “It’s not wrong for the police to take the law into their own hands when injustice occurs.” This suggests that the film will explore serious themes of justice and morality, elevating it beyond a typical commercial fare.
If the trailer is any indication, Vettaiyan will highlight social issues and moral dilemmas. This is unlike Rajinikanth’s recent films like Jailer, Darbar, and Annatthe, which focussed on his character’s journey.
Director TJ Gnanavel, in his previous film, Jai Bhim, addressed the issue of police brutality, caste injustice and custodial death/torture. In Vettaiyan, Amitabh Bachchan’s character opposes Rajinikanth’s character for endorsing encounters, which showcases ethical conflicts. Gnanavel reinforces the film’s stance and adds depth to the narrative by making Bachchan’s character state: “Justice delayed is justice denied; justice hurried is justice buried.”
This contrast will probably invite the audience to engage with the ethical issues presented. By blending action with meaningful dialogue, Vettaiyan promises an engaging cinematic experience that balances entertainment and thought-provoking themes.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan is an action drama featuring Rajinikanth in the titular role. The film also features Amitabh bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan and Abhirami. The film marks the Tamil debut of Amitabh Bachchan.
